Why see a therapist?Even if you have supportive family and friends, it can sometimes be difficult to talk to them about very personal feelings. Having the space to talk about your difficulties with a trained therapist who is completely independent of your circumstances can be very beneficial. I have helped many people who were struggling with some of the issues listed above.
Counselling or psychotherapy
These terms are often used interchangeably and for me, the difference is explained by length of time and focus. Counselling is typically short-term and focuses on a specific, current issue. Psychotherapy is usually longer-term and looks at more deeply-rooted difficulties which may stem from the past. On this website I use 'therapy' for both counselling and psychotherapy.
